Senior First Officer – B737-800

QUALIFICATION : ATPL, FRTO, COP RTR licenses and IR rating. Class I medical.

EXPERIENCE : Experienced First Officer with minimum Flying experience of 500 hrs

REPORTING TO : Chief Operating Officer

AGE : Min 25 years

Knowledge :

Complete and thorough knowledge of company operations manual.

Thorough knowledge of Technical and performance related subjects as appropriate to the type of aircraft being flown.

Knowledge of all rules and regulations issued by DGCA.

  • First officers with ATPL license, inducted with an aim of upgrading to captaincy are designated as Senior First Officers. However, their duties and responsibilities remain the same as for first officers. They are subordinate to the Commander during the flight duty and flight execution for the following:
  • The First Officer shall remain at the allocated station at all times during flight, except when authorised by the Commander to leave his post. He should not normally alter any flight conditions, controls, switches, etc. without the knowledge and approval of the Commander, except when such alteration is absolutely necessary in an emergency or in the interest of safety of the aircraft and its passengers.
  • The First Officer shall read out the checklists at the appropriate time and ensure that crew members concerned comply with the checklist. He shall normally maintain a listening watch on R/T when within area, approach or airport control boundaries and shall make position reports as and when required. Any message out of the normal should be approved by the Commander before transmission. He shall also be responsible for periodically obtaining weather report from destination and alternate.
  • First Officers are considered as potential Commanders. They are expected to understand and study the duties and responsibilities of the Commander. The most valuable instructions are the experience gained in actual flight conditions and therefore, flight operations methods employed by the Commander should be closely observed. Any procedure not understood by the First Officer should be clarified from the Commander.
  • While functioning as PM, is responsible for the navigation of the aircraft. Any deviation from track shall be brought to the attention of the Commander. If track deviation occurs due to weather or associated reasons, he shall keep a track of the aircraft position at all times.
  • Is expected to report facts, which may influence the quality of the general flight execution, to the Commander.
  • Should have no doubts about his condition and proficiency before starting and during flight execution.
  • Is Is equally responsible for the safety of flight operation.
  • Flight Preparation :

  • Acquaint himself with all relevant particulars and latest instructions concerning aircraft type and flight to be flown;
  • Advise the Commander, if, in his opinion, any aspect of the flight preparation has been overlooked.
  • Flight Execution.

  • Perform all duties as described in the BDAL manuals under the supervision of the Commander.
  • Assist in promoting an atmosphere in which a good understanding and co-operation among the crew members may be expected.
  • Be alert on developments, which may endanger the safety of the flight.

  • If he believes these developments exist, he shall advise the Commander.
  • Ask the Commander to take appropriate action.
  • If, in his opinion, strong doubts exist as to the physical or mental fitness of the Commander (incapacitation) and / or immediate action is required to prevent a highly critical situation, he shall take such action as deemed necessary (if possible, in consultation and agreement with other crew members).
