Balancing responsibilities towards the business, society and the environment are part of Blue Dart Aviation’s DNA of Conscious Social Responsibility predating mandated CSR. Outreach efforts span emergency response during disasters like the Bhuj earthquake, tsunami, floods and the COVID19 pandemic, to annual blood donation camps, upgrading school infrastructure and vocational skilling for the less privileged, and afforestation initiatives.
The annual Global Volunteers Day (GVD) is founded on the pillars of Go Green, Go Teach and Go Help. The range of activities includes blood donation camps; distribution of medicines, blankets and household appliances in orphanages and old age homes; career counselling for students; and tree planting events in schools and colleges.
Infrastructure improvement in schools disadvantaged by limited resources has been a focus area. The ongoing effort has benefited several schools by providing them with basic facilities for a more conducive learning environment. Improvements include construction of toilets, cycle parking stand, a laboratory, kitchen, utilities, classroom repair, facilitating waste disposal, potable drinking water and replenishment of the library.
In partnership with the CII Institute of Logistics, structured vocational skills in logistics are imparted to school-leaving students. Students who did not wish to advance their education are encouraged to enrol in order to prepare themselves for employment in logistics-related jobs in various organisations. This is an ongoing, annual CSR project.
In collaboration with the Women in Aviation India Chapter (WIAI) and airport operators, the Girls in Aviation Day event is celebrated each year at Blue Dart Aviation’s airport terminals. Several batches of young schoolgirls are familiarised with career options in the aviation industry, and gain a first-hand view of various aspects of aviation operations and facilities.
Blue Dart Aviation associates with Pitchandikulam Forest Consultants in an endeavour to restore the flora and fauna dislocated by unplanned development in the city suburbs. The afforestation initiative has resulted in the planting of numerous indigenous species of trees across 26 acres abutting the Siruseri Twin Lakes, Chennai and aims to strengthen the bend of the lake.
Over the years, Blue Dart Aviation’s Corporate Social Responsibility has overseen several projects to give back to the communities it serves through support for segments of society and the environment- contributing to a sustainable world and creating a better tomorrow.
